![]() ![]() If its the word b#h then lots more songs would have to be banned to come into line with this new rule. The decision to ban the song doesnt seem logical, and i cant see even a loose reason for them doing so. This song is in no way MEANT to be offensive. ![]() Not quite sure what you mean by homophobic dancehall? All I know is the Union has a policy on banning all songs which people find offensive. I don't like dancehall, so don't go to events where it is played but I'm still interested in the Union's policy. Out of interest what's the Union's stance on all this supposedly homophobic dancehall. It's just a typical example of the Prodigy adding vaguely controversial lyrices to a tune which doesn't need any help at all in being interesting. "I'm the bitch you hated"- Firestarter, The Prodigy. If this can be banned then I suggest the union should ban all songs which glamourise the 'gangster rap' lifestyle as I consider this offensive to many groups of people. I really dont think that the union should have the power to ban this song as the term 'bitch', can be given to a bloke or a woman. The bass line is completely unreal and it definately triggers feelings of excitement when people listen to it. Smack My Bitch Up is probably one of my most favourite songs by the prodigy. You're right, it is just one line! It isn't telling people to go out and hit anyone! I also agree with Helmut (Russell) on the PIMP reference. since i'm a fan of rather "heavy" music, i don't mind the lyrics being "heavy to stomach" as well. I really lke the song – and am not in the least offended by the lyrics (after all it's just one line, really) because for me, prodigy isn't about the lyrics, it's their unique musical style that hypes me up like a pack of pro plus ingested at once – but better – imo as a girl you can't help but take lyrics less than seriously – otherwise there'd be almost nothing but boybands or some divas left to listen to. Why? Probably just good marketing by Shady Records and a lot of radio airplay. Whilst the former is at least somewhat tongue-in-cheek, Fiddy's effort genuinely glamorises prostitution/guns/violence towards women, and links them to the Hip-Hop lifestyle. ![]() I bet they play 50 Cent – PIMP, which is equally offensive, if you consider SMBU to be so. If I recall correctly, the Union is collectively offended by the song… I can see where your coming from, but I'm glad we're not trying to unban the song AND the video, otherwise I'd have no hope! The video is, without doubt, the best thing in the world to watch when you aren't sober. ![]()
